Getting your horse ready for international competition is a long process. In this vlog, I talk about what lies ahead for me and my horses, and describe the process of getting an FEI passport, with special assistance from Riot Gear (Owned by Steve & Vicki Sukup), who is now ready to compete in his first 1 star event.
I’m really happy to formally introduce you all to my new Retired Racehorse Project horses, Vinny (owned by Leigh Ann and Mary Alex Bacchus) and Fly with Me aka Lear (owned by Michelle and Maddie Chisholm). I also often get asked about Fledge. Here’s an update.
Over the weekend I spent time teaching a clinic at Hooked on Ridin’ Equestrian Center in Burlington, NC. While there, I reflected on why I like teaching clinics and helps some horses to build confidence in water jumps.
I take two new horses to Big Bear Farm to stretch their cross country legs. Practical Joker (aka ‘PJ’) is my Retired Racehorse Project horse. This was my third ride on him, and only his second time jumping. After he gained a little confidence, you can see he really started to enjoy himself.
Riot Gear is a 16.3 hds Oldenberg Gelding owned by Steve and Vicki Sukup. He has previously competed up to Training level with Eileen Kenney, and earned a 5th place finish at the Young Event Championships. This guy has upper level potential written all over him.
A recap of my experience at Badminton. In the words of my coach, Karen O’Connor, “experience is what you get the moment after you needed it.” The year is still young. Excited for what lies ahead for Johnny and my other horses.
